Before you hire a Hardwood Floor Refinishing
contractor you’re going to talk to a few of them. Our Mission is to
give you the information & resources to educate yourself about refinishing hardwood floors
so you can be more informed when making your decision. We do this
because we’re confident you will realize the value, quality and
convenience of our service. Most of the time our customers that
need to sand wood floor are in need of floor refinishing because the finish is worn out, or for stain color changes. The wood itself is usually fine except for minor wood floor repair,
like chips, cracks or holes from cable wires that we fix. Rarely is
the floor beyond refinishing. This makes our objective always the same…
- We sand wood floor bare making new as possible, utilizing dustless floor refinishing procedures we pioneered. Our vacuum marketing company is www.vac-max.com
as we also sell our equipment to others. This is the real deal
and not a glorified shop vac! Compare for yourself.
- Next, we include wood floor staining, and demo the stain colors
on your floor to help you decide on the color that is
esthetically correct for your homes décor. Staining doesn’t mean
dark as there are many light natural colors and is an excellent
sealer.
Floor refinishing always consists of 3 coats because 2 isn’t enough. Just like paint, there are different manufactures/qualities of floor finishing.
It’s imperative that you know what type finish is being
applied to your floor for the money you’re paying. We offer a
choice of quality name brand finishes in our hardwood floor refinishing
packages at different prices. The better the finish, the better
job, the more the costs etc. Remember you are going to get what
you paid for.
Most people have no idea what’s involved in wood floor refinishing and call to ask for a price. Dustless floor refinishing
and finish type is what can make it more expensive. Fast drying, water
based (Latex is another term for water-based) finishes with quality
Aluminum Oxide are extremely durable, better appearance and affords
you convenience, (fast dry & no harmful vapor) however, it comes
with a price tag. Water based with Acrylic is also fast drying, less
expensive, not as good looking, and not as durable, so beware! Oil
based finishes have been reformulated to comply with state EPA laws and
is not the same product as it once was, don’t fall for the “Good Old Polyurethane Routine”
its 5x less expensive than quality Latex, and not convenient at all.
Oil Based Poly will probably be non-compliant w EPA laws in the near
future and not available in the state.
Make Sure the Contractor has made the investment in proper dustless floor refinishing equipment before you make an investment in him!
This is what you should be asking to insure the bang for your buck:
- What kind of dust containment system? Is it a professional trailer mounted
or portable system? Most portable systems are
glorified shop vacs with a fraction of the power that really don’t work.
How much horse power?
- What kind of finish? (Name Brand) Is it Water or Oil
based? If water based is it Acrylic or Aluminum Oxide? (if
they say Latex Polyurethane its acrylic) How many coats? Are all
the coats the same finish product or is one of the coats a sealer
of some kind? (Many substitute a sealer for 1st coat because it
less expensive for them, but not as durable for you)
