The product listed in the package is the top-coat. The Difference in the Products are the Quality and the Price. Think of it like buying paint. You can go to Walmart and buy cheap paint - or - you can go to Home Depot/Lowes and hope to get something better. If you want a quality paint, you go the Benjamin Moore Store. You're going to spend more, because you're buying better paint. Keep in mind, not everyone needs the best of the best.
Bob Sidoti Floors is an expert in oil-based polyurethane application. 41 years ago when we started our business water-based wasn't available yet; every job was finished in oil. About 20 years ago a law required manufacturers of solvent based products to reformulate to comply with EPA guidelines by lowering the VOC to 350. This polyurethane is not the same as what was used in the past. Fortunately, the law only mandated the product sold in gallon sized and larger containers. This means the "OLD SCHOOL" 550VOC polyurethane is still available in quarts. This product has a proven track record for durability, and unmatched aesthetic value of that rich, smooth texture finish only a polymer can give you. THE PACKAGE CONSISTS OF DUST FREE SANDING, 1 STAIN COAT, AND 2 FINISH COATS OF "OLD SCHOOL" PRODUCT. Oil based poly has a much thicker viscosity than water-based finish. 2 coats is sufficient but 3 can be applied for added durability at an extra cost. Using Oil Based polyurethane doesn't come with the quick dry convenience of water-based. Oil based poly dries in 24 hours, 1 coat per day.
